There are few places in the United States where simply driving around can leave you with a list of 30+ species, many of them large and spectacular. There were three burrows, each with a tenant. Birding in Florida is unique in that so much of that state’s plenty is evident even to the casual observer.

Sure, they may lack the audacious colors of jays or the imposing attitudes of raptors, but it is wrens, with jaunty tails and brazen attitudes and ringing, rambling voices, that re on anyone’s short list of favorite garden birds for almost as long as humans have paid attention to birds. The Fairy Pitta is listed as Vulnerable, with the HBW that the species is “rare; global population probably no more than a few thousand individuals” While the sexes are alike, my guess is that the Fairy Pitta in the photo is a male given its early arrival date in Shanghai. ” Good point, I think. I hope he is right.
