It is listed as Near Threatened, partly due to the usual occurrence of illegal trade for the pet market. Like many humans, it is presumed to be monogamous (source: HBW). Still, a weird and uncomfortably human-centric way of categorizing bird species, if you ask me, which I am pretty sure you will not.

As the name indicates, the Malayan Laughingthrush (Fraser’s Hill, Malaysia) does not live in China but (hint given in the Latin species name peninsulae) on peninsular Malaysia. The Chestnut-capped Laughingthrush does not live in China – I saw it at Fraser’s Hill, Malaysia.

Another item they feed on is hunting edible bird nest swiftlets, which are quite common in edible swiftlet houses in Sabah, Malaysia ( source ). Another paper reviews information on Oriental Pied Hornbills raiding the nests of various bird species in Singapore and even pet bird cages.
