Portugal has a long history of both falconry and winemaking. Portugal was a source of less poetic, practical information on falconry, as well.

He complained they were eating the grass he wanted for his horses. Hare taxonomy is confusing, but I’ve seen Iberian hares in Spain and Portugal, Corsican Hares in Corsica (where else?), We had been watching them for a while when the farmer on whose land they were grazing scared them back into the forest with fire-crackers.

A winter miscellany

Today these trees – oak, beech and horse chestnut – are like fine icing on a very poor cake. The Forestry Commission, the government’s state forestry corporation, was cunning enough when it created the forest nearly a century ago to plant deciduous trees along the edges.
