Among apes, many are probably larger than their ancestors (gorillas are blown-up versions of a chimp-like ancestor) but some are not (gibbons are probably smaller than their common ancestor with chimps). And this is where the latest research related to Archaeopteryx comes in. Archaeopteryx went right back to being a bird again.
