And if you know someone who still eats fish or anyone else from the sea, this is a fantastic book, as I don't recall anyone giving sea creatures the respect they deserve in a long time (and telling their audience the truth about their lives and deaths). He always refers to himself and his wife and his child as "vegetarian."

Do they suffer any more or less in death? There is a rational, and for some people a spiritual, case for being a vegetarian: Killing animals is wrong. Or pig, or duck, or fish. Are they any more or less sentient? Are they any more or less part of the mysterious unity of life? I think not. I was cold, wet and seeking refuge.

With regard to cruelty and suffering, it's clear from the film that the human animal has been profoundly negatively affected by climate change, but there is no attention given to nonhuman animals. There was no meaningful discussion about our inefficient use of resources (grain and water) in the feeding of animals to kill to feed people.

Undigested antibiotics leach from manure into freshwater systems and impair the sex organs of fish. McWilliams insists that vegetarianism is "the most powerful political response we can make to industrialized food. Nearly 70 percent of all the antibiotics produced are fed to farmed animals to prevent (not treat) disease.
