Work brings me regularly to Monterrey in Nuevo Leon, northern Mexico. Amazingly, everyone showed up at dawn except for one person, who’d had a near-death experience with me on Colombia’s Sumapaz paramo, an acceptable excuse for a no-show. The day was only minutes old and we already had 32 species on the day list. It was amazing.

I flew into Denver from Mexico. My hosts could confidently tick off the species on their life list. Honest food in a fifties’ diner while reminiscing about all those movies you have seen about diners in the fifties. We got at least three sub-species but the highlight was a Wilson’s Snipe we flushed.
