Earlier this year, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals announced that it will offer a $1 million X Prize for the creation of affordable, humane, and "commercially viable" test-tube meat by 2012. I'd rather not any meat at all, thank you, but for those meat addicts like my husband, this could help.

Yet he spends time describing the miserable deaths of day-old male chicks and understands what happens in dairy production, and I assume he doesn't partake of anyone's eggs or milk. He always refers to himself and his wife and his child as "vegetarian." But why does he say "vegetarian?"
