Strangely, the usually fairly accurate eBird description also fails to mention the beautiful blue around the eyes of the species: “Dark rufous above and grayish-white below, with a silver ear patch, bright white throat, and a black patch around the eye.” I wonder why. Sadly, with a fins cut off (this video is very graphic, be warned), sharks are unable to navigate in the water. While there are laws in place protecting endangered species of shark from shark finning, international waters are rarely regulated when it comes to the practice.

What could motivate gunmen (I cannot call them hunters) in two states to deliberately kill North America’s tallest and most critically endangered bird? It may be as sick as deliberately targeting an endangered species for death.
