First birds came in the form of migrants and resident species that live in an oasis of precious green space near home. 2022 gave me a fair share of wonderful birds and birding experiences. Those kept me below the 700 species threshhold but I won’t complain about 691 species. 48 Hummingbird Species.

Nevertheless, five years seems a good time to reflect on the blogging experience. I initially thought I would focus on the intersection of birding and the law and birding on federal public lands, and I have done lots of posts on those topics. Bird researchers are good people! I even wrote not one but two posts about birdfeeder patents.

It’s the warbler that is often the last unchecked species on birders’ life lists and, whether you list or not, for most of us observing it is a once in a lifetime experience. Fish and Wildlife Service endangered species list. The warbler is on the road to being delisted from the Endangered Species List.

The USVI are smaller and have fewer habitats and, as a result, fewer bird species. There are arguments for adding all territories, but experience demonstrates that the ABA moves glacially when it comes to the ABA Area.
