Here's my response on medical research in general. I recently had a discussion about medical research using animals. Many people feel very uncomfortable with animal testing, even scientists I think, which is why they often get so emotional and defensive about their research. Perhaps it was a necessary “evil.”

I particularly question the use of chimpanzees in medical research. Like other mammals, they are capable of strong emotions. Tags: animal experimentation animal research. From what I recall, chimpanzees share at least 95 percent of human DNA, although the number that floats around the most is 98.6

Engber writes of experimenting on cats and on the "furtive language" vivisectionists use to decrease the emotional impact of what they do. Wouldn't you at some point say: That's not right--we need to stop that immediately and put our money and energy into finding alternative ways of performing medical research.
