Hide at Mankwe Dam

It is built to reach out into the water when the dam is full and is reached along a raised walkway, screened from the mammals, reptiles and birds that may be roosting, resting, feeding, drinking or waiting in ambush close by. The Osprey in its turn was dispossessed by an African Fish-Eagle. Mammals visit the dam as well as the birds.

Birding the Kruger Park (1): Skukuza area

African Spoonbills seem unfazed by large reptiles. Presumably, the Natal Spurfowl thinks the Kruger Park is good habitat, with all the big animals around – the HBW remarks (with a slight hint of disapproval) that the species forages on rhinoceros and elephant dung.
