Birding Honduras–The Cryptic Birds

Honduras was finally a reality. Excellent 10,000 Birds posts have been written about Pico Bonito and Honduras by Corey and Carlos , so I’m going to focus on some of my most memorable experiences. Double-striped Thick-Knee nests are shallow depressions in the ground, with a typical clutch of two eggs. And lots of greenery.

These thoughts crossed my mind as I returned from a week of birding bliss as a guest of the Honduras Institute of Tourism. The Tern colonies in Queens didn’t produce anything but the expected species but Gull-billed Terns , Corey’s first of the year, were a pleasure to see loafing on a mudflat at Big Egg Marsh.
