Their territory also includes portions of Central America, down into eastern Columbia, Ecuador and Peru. There is a small population in Brazil, Paraguay, Bolivia, and northern Argentina. Mexico’s baja Peninsula has a strong resident population, and they can be found sporadically thru out main land Mexico.

These high-flyers from the montane grasslands of Ecuador, Peru and Colombia should not be missed on a trip to these countries. One of the largest species of hummingbird with a very unique and un-hummingbird-like tail, it is found in Peru, Bolivia, Brazil and Paraguay where it can actually be remarkably common.
