This bird, of the Turdus family, can be found on the western slopes of Ecuador and Colombia. This was a very interesting experience with quick breaths, speeding heartbeats, and a few tense moments of not being able to photograph the bird due to fog.

Birding the “Utterly Peaceful Moorland” – Sumapaz NP Colombia

One reason that I can think of for subjecting myself to such a torturous experience is if I am going birdwatching. I had just ended my ten-day birding adventure in Ecuador (which is a story for another time) when I decided, since I had an amazing time, to prolong my trip a bit longer before heading back to Europe. Ah, what the heck!

I photographed this Guianan Cock-of-the-rock at a lek site near Surama, deep in the rainforest zone of Guyana, and my incredible experience with Andean Cock-of-the-rocks was at a display lek on the edge of the town of Jardin, in the coffee-belt of Colombia, both just incredible birds that make the heart soar with joy!
