The only wildcat I found was illegally killed by hunters during closed season. Photographed within Beljarica: five White-tailed Eagles by Snezana Panjkovic. Two hundred metres further on, two young White-tailed Eagles were soaring. Yet, the primary job of Beljarica is not to support eagles and otters, but to control the floods.

I was in contact with a group of birders for whom I arranged and guided an annual tour to Africa. Although this park was logged in the past, as a national park it is one of the few forests in Ghana that is really protected. . The rare Rufous Fishing Owl was one of the many species seen by the group here.

These truly are the gentle giants of the forest and with a little careful manoeuvring on our wooden platform; we were all enjoying great scope views of a mixed group of beautiful males with their giant jet black casques and pale blue throat wattles alongside the ginger punk-haired females.
