Scores of Black-bellied Whistling Ducks circled overhead, these vocal ducks are often hunted illegally here so it was refreshing to see so many. Both are direct results of the pet trade. We had no idea if the nighthawks would hunker down or flee. Farmers keep their livestock in this wetland also.

The quail, guans, ducks and pheasant are hunted for their meat. Also, no one should have birds as pets. What can we do while species disappear from the planet each year?

It’s easy to choke it with food while you’re feeding it and chances are good that you’d raise the chick like a pet and you’d end up with an adult bird that doesn’t know what its predators are and seek humans for food and mating…aka an unreleasable bird. Owls are a little different.
