I thought it was an urban myth that animal shelters would actually turn over unwanted animals to laboratories for research, but apparently not. Montcalm County has taken a step towards ending its relationship with an animal research facility. In return, the company can use some of the unwanted dogs for animal research.

PETA was trying to get the information to find out why the university is buying cats and dogs from a West Texas animal shelter for university training or research. The university also purchased dogs from the shelter up until 2007, Carruth said. I bet there's probably some ugly stuff in those records.

A Trip to an Animal Lab

Interesting that many of the grants this place gets specifically say they can't experiment on any domesticated animals (cats and dogs I guess.). There was a poster in the lunch room with four cute animals (a dog, cat, rabbit and something else.) It reminded me of an adoption poster at the animal shelter. Weird, weird, weird.
