It might be about time for HBW to document this split as well … not sure why they do not update this. He was from the area but had apparently been traveling to India to see the Dalai Lama. Not very subtle in their self-presentation, these birds. Maybe they are not that much into birds?

After writing this last sentence, I looked up the species in the HBW and found the sentence “Song poorly documented” in the appropriate section, while with regard to calls, the description is that “call is a two-note raspy nasal ‘ryeeh-reh’”.

That’s pretty amazing–Bolivia has more bird species than India! The guide covers 1,433 species, the number of birds documented at the end of 2014, the cutoff point for the book. These are species which have been seen one or two or three times, but the rare sightings were unsupported by documentation. Conclusion.
