He asked whether cows, chickens, sheep and some of the other animals that we eat are usually treated and killed in a humane manner. The meat industry will say yes, of course, all animals are treated and killed humanely. In my opinion, the crux of the question touches on what is “humane.” Here is my opinion.

Here's what they say about Trader Joe's eggs (definitely does not sound humane to me.) Tags: eggs consumption farm animal welfare groceries. But are they really free-range eggs? I looked online and all I could find was this article on The Vegetarian Site. They also offer "Cage Free" eggs.

We "traditionally" have applied our social mores in some places and not others, and we should go back to "tradition," which I bet has something to do with continuing to care about our dogs while continuing to feign care for "farm animals," as they're value is as food only. Scott's assumption is that we profit from certain animals.
