But no LGU has yet put its meat-industry courses on the course of ultimate extinction.

The meat industry will say yes, of course, all animals are treated and killed humanely. For some people, it is inhumane to eat meat in any situation, no matter how well the animal is treated prior to and during slaughter. Tags: farm animal welfare factory farm agribusiness. Here is my opinion.

Calf-roping (which of course is a hideous practice, but so are the rest of the animal-related rodeo activities). Tags: Activism Current Affairs Ethics. The Calgary Humane Society works with the Stampede to make sure the animals are safe (and by the way that's impossible if the animals are being used in the rodeo. Not the rodeo.

It can be argued instead that by eating meat one is giving one’s tacit consent or approval to the present situation, that the only way to be true to one’s moral conviction that the present treatment of animals is inhumane is not to eat meat. The trouble is, of course, that it is not clear what tacit approval is supposed to mean.

Paragraph #4 starts with: "Undeniably, neither I nor anyone I know advocates or even tolerates the inhumane treatment of farm animals." The veracity of this statement hinges on Scott's definition of "inhumane," and that definition must be very, very restricted, and clearly unrelated to the realities of our modern factory farm system.
