For the last several years, I have produced a small run of calendars for my fiends and family. As simple as that might sound, over the course of a full year, I will shoot more than 20,000 photos, While that seems like a lot, it works out to about 400 per weekend, if I were to be in the field 50 of 52 weekends of the year.

And culls of Nyala have been proposed. This is of course an anathema for many in the animal rights camp. And don’t forget that Africa’s population continues to grow, putting more and more pressure on the land and many eyes watch the remaining wild spaces asking why the animals should have them and not hungry families.

Of course, when hamburgers aren't at stake, most of us think that it would be morally wrong to kill an animal for no good reason. So, we are given the "cull the herd for its own good" defense, or the "cull the herd to prevent automobile accidents" defense, or the "I hunt to put food on my family's table" defense.
