Both animal rights groups and animal welfare groups use "compassion" frequently. Then again, so do people who kill animals for a living. Compassion" has been so diluted that most people don't bat an eyelash at the idea of " compassionate carnivores." After all, they "love" the animals they kill. Or vegan pumpkin pie.

" On Atheism and Veganism " created what was for the most part a respectful, interesting discussion that brought up a couple of items I'd like to clarify or explore. First off, I began the post with, "For me, atheism and veganism go hand-in-hand." But in my vegan advocacy that's the perfect place to begin (or end).

Image via Wikipedia I found The Goode Family disappointing on the vegan side. One complaint many of us have with "liberals" and "progressives" is that they tend to leave veganism and animal rights out of their sphere of concern. Are Baby Boomers killing Facebook and Twitter? Yeah, lots of mockery, but I didn't laugh.

Fighting to maintain the integrity of the words humane, love, euthanasia or compassion, is also fighting for animals. And it usually involves exchanges with non-vegans. I could debate about language all day, with vegans and non-vegans. It helps them focus on what's really being done to animals.

He clearly thinks that it is wrong to cause animals to suffer unnecessarily, but he appears to be somewhat ambivalent about killing animals (provided the killing is carried out humanely). However, the above rationalization does not directly address the issue of contributing to the unnecessary killing of a conscious sentient being.
