Global Big Day in Costa Rica

Those who did so on May 5th automatically became part of the biggest day of collective birding in 2018; Global Big Day ! I love birding tee-shirts, I have a small collection, next year, I’m getting my own for my GBD team. This Plumbeous Kite made it onto the list for the day. Costa Rica is one of those places.

Birding Inirida, Colombia, or river dolphins and hoatzins, part 2

… – part 2 – Once I finish this writing, with a strange mix of emotions I will put the Lynx field guide Birds of Colombia to the bookshelf for the first time, more than half a year after I received it. These included Sunbird (United Kingdom), Birding Ecotours (South Africa), Aviatur (Colombia), and two teams from the USA; FieldGuides and Surbound Expeditions. Antbirds, flycatchers and ovenbirds (Furnaridds) are the largest groups of Tropical Rainforest birds, but they don’t occur evenly along the altitudinal length of the forest.

The Glitter in the Green: In Search of Hummingbirds–A Hummer Book Review

There is a photo of him caring for a White-chinned Sapphire in the book, the only human pictured in Dunn’s 16-page collection of hummingbird photographs, and it is inspiring. A good part of The Glitter in the Green is devoted to the history of how hummingbirds have been treated and depicted and valued or not valued by human beings.
