Over the last two weeks, we raised our faces and sniffed. Fire is also more unpredictable than even floods, more sudden and acute than drought, falling close to the class of natural disasters that we dread the most, like earthquakes and avalanches, the sudden killers. For us here in the valley, though, at least it cleared the air.
