eBird states that “small white patch on throat is not obvious and difficult to see” And they use a photo that I submitted as main illustration, so they must be right. And yes, sparrows in areas with polluted air are less healthy. It just looks stupid. Thank god that this does not apply to humans.

Hong Kong Trip Report: February 2014

I was fortunate to spend time scanning open fields, wetlands, and the inlet separating Hong Kong from China with this large group of friendly and avid avian observers. What is a day of birding without scanning malodorous mud, right? Do your research. Frankly, I don’t even know if this is the right species.

An individually marked Great Knot was seen in Roebuck Bay and then observed on the mudflats at Yalu Jiang Nature Reserve, China, 137 hours later! For a researcher to get from Broome to Beijing it would take over 30 hours, as you would be required to fly south first! Wicked, right? It was observed sleeping after the 6400kms trip.

Or maybe they are quite excited about clarifying that Muscicapa latirostris is the wrong name for this bird while Muscicapa dauurica is right. .” I am not sure they are aware of their own joke there.
