A private zoo operator in Taiwan cross-bred lions and tigers, resulting in three "liger" cubs. Both species are endangered and it is illegal to cross breed them. It is almost certainly a rumor that writing a post about Australia and not mentioning dingos is illegal, but why take the risk?

Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve: the Tiger Afternoon

During 1990s, the South China Tiger became extinct in the wild (some still survive in zoos) and the number of extinct races reached four. At that time there were still some 40,000 tigers in the wild. In the 1980-s, another race, the Javan Tiger become extinct and the total numbers halved to somewhat over 20,000.
