He writes: There is a rational, and for some people a spiritual, case for being a vegetarian: Killing animals is wrong. I went back to New York to the areas where I grew up and went to college and graduate school for a five-day weekend. When referring to cats, dogs and horses of unknown sex, the children would randomly assign sex, with the conventionally "prettier" animals being called "she." We do that with cats and dogs already, right?
