The Pacific Wren of the San Francisco Botanical Garden

The air was cooler in the Redwood Grove than the surrounding, sunlit areas of the San Francisco Botanical Garden. The place was full of parents with toddlers, kindergarten school groups, and walkers like us. My mom and I were visiting the gardens while we waited for my brother to get out of his classes at UC Berkeley.

Night Herons

We had been at sea for 5 days and 5 nights, over 100 miles off shore, sailing non-stop from the USA-Canada border to San Francisco. Both species can be found mingling together, in small groups, as they forage for crabs that have been exposed by the receding water. One of these is my very first Black-crowned Night Heron.

While the Black-throated Laughingthrush is native to Southeast Asia, it is also kept at the Toronto Zoo and has its own web page there. So, maybe I am too picky.
