. • Odd family trees, the Hippopotamus is closely related to whales, dolphins and porpoises, the elephant is closely related to manatees, dougongs (reasonable), and the little rock hyrax, yes a little mountain loving hamster is related to the thickest b h in the land, also horses are closely related to rhinos and tapirs.

In an open Maruti Gypsy, we are heading north from Dasada in the Little Rann of Kutch, Gujarat, along a rather decent tarmac road, between the wheat fields and passing camel carts. CR being the highest category in the Red List , if I want to see some of those birds, I better hurry!

It ain’t a camel and it ain’t a horse. And what I met there was – well, a Barred Warbler, a Greenish Warbler, a Spotted Flycatcher all headed for their breeding grounds further north. But also, yet again to my utter surprise, a single Tolai Hare. what is this thing? And it walks on its hind legs. Ah, much better.
