Puffin Trip in Maine

For nearly a hundred years, after the eggers, meat-hunters, plume-hunters, and a human-influenced gull population boom, puffins were absent from the island. They were reintroduced to Eastern Egg Rock starting in 1973 , with over a thousand young transported from Canada over several years. Most of our looks were much better than this.

The Botai did not just herd horses for meat. Perhaps if we never used nonhumans and instead relied on our own ingenuity we would have created modes of transportation better than those we have today. Horse-drawn carriages and breeding and racing horses and using them to play polo or to schlep kids around is an insult to horses.
