Beginning this year, New York State embarked on its third-ever breeding bird atlas , and it’s the first one I’ve been able to participate in as a birder. And it just goes to show that it’s alright to show a little appreciation for an unwanted species once in a while, whether it’s yeast or bird. Good birding and happy drinking!

If you’re planning on adding a dog to your family, it’s possible you’ll find your new family member at the local animal shelter or humane society. Similarly, choose a breed that doesn’t need much brushing and grooming. If you don’t like to walk, don’t choose a herding breed. There are so many unwanted dogs in the world.

Though these plovers are common on the North Norfolk coast, their nearest breeding grounds are far to the north. A few do breed in Europe, on the extreme north-east of European Russia. Today many thousands spend much of their year there, arriving in September and not departing for their breeding grounds in arctic Russia until late May.

Sure, there are some shelter pets who sadly have never felt love, or the affection of a human before. A certain breed, age, sex, temperament, that you think will fit into your home. Some were abused or neglected.
