While it is not unusual to approach an urban Blackbird to within 2 yards, 2 inches are not the norm and strongly indicative that something is rotten in the state of Denmark. I frequently observed Blackbirds walking on the ground like rodents, even ducking under low tufts of grass.

The source of this ranking, BirdLife International, lists Bolivia as currently having 1,439 bird species, including 18 breeding endemics. Like most maps, colors are used to indicate seasonal status (breeding resident, Austral migrant/visitor, Boreal migrant, etc.). Distribution maps are also different from other field guides.

The more I learn about ducks, the more impressed I am with their blatant promiscuity. Mallards , of course, bring new meaning to the term dabbling duck , what with all those wild mallard hybrids and domestic cross-breeds running around. But apparently, all the Anas -species ducks are overly amorous or at least indiscriminate.
