When you think of invasives, you think of the birds that have been helped by human beings to get where they are, such as House Sparrow or European Starling. I’d like to introduce you to a diminutive heron, the Cattle Egret Bubuclus ibis. Cattle Egret has been introduced by humans to Hawaii and the Seychelles.

Common Myna, a steadily spreading exotic in southern Florida restricted to artificial, man-made habitats. In southeastern Florida, most of the bird species restricted to parking lots and similar artificial habitats are exotic species. Ring-billed Gull, an abundant wintering species in parking lots of southeast Florida.

Whooping Crane, Florida. There is a small resident population in Polk County, Florida, in the middle of the peninsula, mostly on protected land, and once in a while they show up in a place where they can be easily observed. So, I was excited to read reports in late 2017 of a pair of Whooping Cranes being seen on a cattle farm.
