It seems this species is shy even by pitta standards – the HBW calls it a “very shy and secretive pitta, easily overlooked” and says that it is “very rare in China (S. Congratulations, you are much younger than me and got spared a lot of truly awful music). ” ( source ).

Birding Wuyuan, China

In retrospect, this weekend at Wuyuan was not exactly my finest hour as a bird photographer – hopefully, I could do better now, and perhaps one day I will, should normal traveling ever be possible again in China. Well, they live in groups, something I would never survive. Wuyuan is in Jiangxi province.

One good acquaintance I could probably call a friend is an ethics professor who flies back and forth from Texas to China frequently argued in a group pertaining to bestiality. People who are breeders use racks to allow a male animal mounting the female without damage. He was the only one against it for religious reasons.

Fortunately, barbets are fairly common in Yunnan, China, so it was not a particular disappointment. In fact, John MacKinnon (of “Guide to the Birds of China”) in a recent Shanghai presentation called it “not a real woodpecker at all”, and while he is wrong about that, I sort of see his point.
