Comical with their green feathers and unique faces, they have established feral populations in cities across the country since their accidental release in the 1960’s. Again, they are fairly common in the Southwest and Mexico, but for me they felt brand new! I have always wanted to see a Monk Parakeet.

The bird illustrations in the third edition are brand new, updated by a group of eight artists working under the direction of John P. The artwork in my edition of Birds of Northern South America is much more intense in color. O’Neill, the original illustrator and funded by the Asa Wright Nature Center.
