Raptors were also the inspiration for the Horus brand logo created by the design studio Moon Collective, which shows the bearded Harrop in profile wearing a feather headdress topped with a falcon’s head, an image with obvious allusions to the eagle warriors ( cuauhtli ) of the Aztecs. Interestingly, Chestnut-collared Longspur does appear under its brand-new official name, Thick-billed Longspur, though the description underneath uses the old name. Bald Eagle, for example, is still said to be “formerly more widespread” though the range map shows expansion.

An information for those Indian readers of the blog who only know “Kingfisher” as a brand of beer: It is also a bird family. Apparently, while in Egypt waiting for a boat to return to Germany he collected specimens of the bird which is now named after him. The Brown-hooded Kingfisher is one of them.
