Pel’s Fishing Owls, Phantoms of the Okavango

The Okavango Delta of Botswana, however, provides one of the very best opportunities to catch a glimpse. Typically these birds hunt at night and are very shy. Our trip to Botswana produced some great owl species besides the reclusive phantom, including some of the smallest and some of the largest owls in Africa. What a beauty!

The Storks of Africa

It is quite a sight to experience hundreds of Abdim’s Stork dropping out of the skies from seemingly thin air, to gorge on burnt or fleeing insects and rodents. It should sensibly occur in the vast Okavango Swamps of Botswana, but all records from this region have been discarded.

She talked about what we might see after we remounted the safari truck, which we had just driven out of the campground at the southern end of Kgalgadi Transfrontier Park, where we were staying in the South African camp, just across from the Botswana camp. That was one of his cats. He also had tigers, cougars, and some other animals.
