And this goal has to do with birds, and I assume since your perusing this here blog, that’s something that might interest you. in the nearly two years since I’ve been here I’ve been steadily climbing towards 200, a fair goal for a county in the center of North Carolina. I won’t feel bad. So read on.

I’ve been told that you can regularly find yourself in some pretty exceptional shorebirding in North Carolina as you get closer to the coast. Yes, 2011 was a great year for birding the Triangle. That is, unless the good citizens of Raleigh start using a lot of water really soon. Isn’t it green?

The bird came first, just in case you were wondering. The name has always seemed to apply to a rather motley group of birds, from the exquisite Scissor-tailed Kite of east Africa, to the grotesque Hook-billed Kite of Central America, and various and sundry examples in between.
