They took dogs to Australia, chickens across the Pacific, rabbits to England, horses to the New World, and then brought potatoes back. There were no mammals, little game, and not many birds either. The reasons for this perceived lack of birds are threefold. We don’t have monkeys, or wildebeest, or salmon here.

After publishing my stories I got emails from people all over the world who had seen similar behavior in various birds and mammals. These birds can learn to pull a string to retrieve a short stick, use the stick to pull out a longer one, then use the long stick to draw out a piece of meat. Empathy Among Elephants.
