Will our desire to mass-produce cheap meat end in a health disaster? How much harm will we do to ourselves in the name of cheap meat? We know that bird flu developed in the world's vast poultry farms. But once you factor in the cost of all these diseases and pandemics, cheap meat suddenly looks like an illusion.

I realize that the most humane method of treating chickens is to not kill them for food.BUT, as long as there is still a demand for their meat, PETA is advocating "Controlled-Atmosphere Killing" as an improvement over current methods of electric immobilization. The birds are not "gassed" (i.e., Controlled-atmosphere killing is a U.S.

The RSPCA are trying to raise awareness of its urgent campaign to protect the welfare of UK meat chickens. Even at current minimum standards, each bird is given less space than a sheet of paper. But this legislation would allow yet more birds to be squashed in, cutting that space by almost a quarter. Tags: news.
