I was participating as a speaker and guide in the Third Bird Festival of Michoacán. The key word here may be “Third” [Bird Festival, that is]. Birding in Michoacán, and indeed, in Mexico, is quite a new activity. Well, Chester Lamb was a researcher for University of California, Berkeley… who died in 1965.

There’s a bear! There’s a bear!

Up to 100 kg – possibly a female, my guide and a bear researcher from the wildlife charity Callisto, Yannis Tsanakis, tells me. According to the latest research data, the total Brown Bear population in Greece is 475 to 500 and here in the Pindos range there are 350 to 400 animals (Pilidis, 2015, in pub.).

Seabirds at Bass Rock

A visit to Bass Rock unveils the Bass Rock Lighthouse built in 1902, the remnants of an ancient chapel, and a symphony of squawking birds. The island is teeming with so many birds that their eggs and young chicks were once harvested for food. The steep walls were dotted with nesting birds and downy chicks about ready to fledge.

“Rise and Rise Again” – Connecticut Valley Brewing Company: Sherwood Double New England Style India Pale Ale

After a bit of searching, I found that it appears to be part of an even longer commandment: “Rise and rise again until lambs become lions” This is pretty serious stuff coming from a can of beer; all I wanted was a drink, thank you. The Bible, possibly, with all this quasi-Messianic, New Testament talk of lambs and lions?
