Royal Shags and Tricky Parakeets: Birding Queen Charlotte Sound

I’ve been to the Sounds before, but I had never visited them specifically to bird, which means I hadn’t seen the specialities there. So early in the morning we left Picton and headed out along Queen Charlotte Sound, getting the general tour and occasionally stopping to look at whatever we found.

I and the Bird: What is a Vulture?

Birds are supposed to have feathers and birds without feathers look incomplete, like they left home with shaving cream on their ear and toothpaste spots on their shirt. Week 8: Wrapping up the South Island, and more!

And, well so with It’s incredible rock formations, but other than the Spotted Shags , one lonely Variable Oystercatcher it was a bust from the bird stand point. The next stop was the tourist town of Kaiteriteri, which has a great beach vibe, but not much in birds. Wait, I did get this nice shot of a Gray Warbler in the Parking lot.
