The first Pied Oystercatcher chicks of 2018

One pair of Pied Oystercatchers nest just north of the rocks on Cable Beach and have to deal with the four-wheel drive vehicles and camels on the beach, but as soon as the eggs have hatched out they move the family approximately two kilometres further north through the dune system. Pied Oystercatcher breeding has started!

10,000 Birds

We keep our observations to a minimum to avoid disturbance and usually only visit the nest site once to get GPS coordinates to report to Birds Australia’s Nest record Scheme. The nest area has remained consistent for at least 11 years that we know of, though there has been a change in birds!
