Along with Hawk Mountain and the Platte River, there were two destinations in Texas near the top of the page – Padre Island National Seashore and the Rio Grande Valley. One of the highlights of birding in this Texas state park is the chance to see five owl species that breed here. Eastern Screech-Owl. Stygian Owl.

After our brief trip thru the great state of Texas, we were headed back into New Mexico, a state I was quite excited to explore. American Kestrels, Cooper Hawks , and Northern Harriers also found the hunting here to their liking. I spooked three Barn Owls out of a dense scrub row, just as the sun was setting.
