After three years of observation at a Bald Eagle nest in Washington state, I believe that young birds do, in fact, learn to fly — and they appear to learn much the same way we do. My work focused on a consistently productive bald eagle nest in Kirkland, Wash., It really looked like a game of tag.

Which these days involves a frenzy to breed and raise a brood. He told me where he’d found them, and we hung up and I went back to my card game. Birds arrive, and immediately start the business of breeding, so they can raise a family and be gone before winter arrives.
