As I continued south I stopped at each small jetty to see which species were roosting and the sea was substantially rougher than on my previous visit. There are a lot of small sheltered bays along the coast and you can choose to walk along the beach or promenade. Birding Australia Australian birds Melbourne' Feeding frenzy.

Wallaby seeks shelter beside an excavator. Our first delay was one of the many iron ore trains that transport the ore to the coast from inland. Although our birding was very limited during our short visit we were able to add 21 new species to our 2013 year list and we did see 72 bird species. Waiting for a long train!

I would do a lap of the lake and take in all of the different species of birds that called the city home. It remains a good location for observing birds close to the city and easily accessible by public transport. Some of the sheltered areas were being used by the Chestnut Teal as a roost.
