The Atlanta Zoo in Georgia is borrowing Chengdu’s winning technique to help try and have a baby of its own.

When going to Australia, one of the two birds I wanted to see most was the Tawny Frogmouth. It seems that quite a few zoos keep Tawny Frogmouths. When these birds breed, this can lead to highly cringeworthy announcements, for example from Adelaide Zoo : “We have egg-citing news!” ” ( source ).

Well, Copenhagen Zoo is back in the news; a few weeks after killing a giraffe and feeding it to some lions, it went and killed some of those same lions. I’m not gong to go into the ethics and reasons behind why a zoo might want to, well, manage its stock. Losing a few non-breeding lions in zoos a great deal less.

Owls live and migrate from Arctic circumpolar to Colorado prairie to South American rainforest to Southeast Asian islands, Galapagos islands, Canary islands–many many islands–to coastal Australia and onward. The chapters on courtship and breeding and roosting and migration are the longest, which isn’t surprising.
