Though I have been birding for a few years now, I had only birded west of the Mississippi once before my recent trip to Austin, Texas. Austin is growing rapidly, someone on the plane telling me the city added over a hundred people every day. Austin had one more life bird in store for me. Monk Parakeet.

Apparently, King Parrot are an Australian grindcore band formed in Melbourne in 2010. In contrast, the Australian King Parrot is an Australian bird species with only a very limited repertoire of grindcore songs. , little fieldwren, and speckled jack.

As we walked along the shore, I heard the familiar, but surprising, sound of parrots! Parrots, in New Orleans? Back in November, I saw my first Monk Parakeets on the streets of Austin, and now here they were again! Northern Mockingbird. Though they are not native to the United States, I love seeing the goof balls.
