A couple of years ago I catalogued the dozens of excuses/rationalizations from well-meaning, compassionate people about why they eat animals, and all fell into one of six categories: It's what god wanted (and other versions, such as: That's why they were put on the earth. Cain=farmer=evil murderer; Abel=slaughtered animals=victim/good son.

I've been having a difficult time blogging both here and at Animal Rights & AntiOppression lately because I feel like my thoughts are like " Groundhog Day." There are few animal rights stories in the news. Feathers: animal. Not the day, the film, where Bill Murray experiences the same day over and over again. And acting.

Kristof, who takes note of the trend represented by the animal welfare proposition on the ballot in California this fall. It’s time that our tax dollars no longer finance the inhumane conditions—for workers and animals and the climate—of factory farms. To the Editor: Nicholas D. Kristof’s column broke my heart.

They mimic snakes, a claim to fame that goes all the way back to Aristotle’s History of Animals. But every photo is clearly here for a reason, whether to show juvenile plumage or large egg clutches or illegal trapping (many of the images in the Challenges and Conservation chapter are from CABS, the Committee Against Bird Slaughter).

The definition of the word HUNT is “to chase or search for game or other wild animals for the purpose of catching or killing.” We have given an awful exhibition of slaughter and destruction, which may serve as a warning to all mankind. Of course, by now most people know they have been slaughtered by hunters for their ivory.
