These mangroves function as a sanctuary for fish and other animals that then make their way as adults across the channel to the coral reefs that surround the island. Swimming with a whale shark on the boat-trip to Isla Isabel. It is a wonderful spot to watch the humpback whales breach in the crystal-clear waters.

The Channel Islands have all sorts of species and subspecies that are endemic to the islands, including mammals, reptiles, plants, and of course birds, many of which are nonmigratory. In summer and fall, the waters around the Channel Islands can teem with Blue Whales. Aside from birds, people really seem to like Island Foxes.

Birds, butterflies, flowers, reptiles – you name it, Gehan has covered it. No doubt, the big five of Sri Lanka include the biggest of the big ever – the Blue Whale , followed by Sperm Whale , Asian Elephant , Leopard and Sloth Bear. Size apart, the sighting rates in the right season and area are really striking.
